Drupal Turns 8 and Rails 3 is Coming!

Drupal Turns 8!

It’s interesting to note that Drupal 1.0.0 was released eight years ago. I just started using Drupal about 3 years ago when I was searching for an easier way to create a community website for music aficionados. I just needed some sophisticated user profile manager actually and I found Drupal a really cool tool to start with even if it was seemingly archaic compared to Wordpress because of the lack of an auto-installer during that time. Well, after 3 years of working on several Drupal projects, I could tell that it has really evolved to be the developer’s CMS. Thanks to the community of developers who have relentlessly devoted their time to improve and help improve both the core and the contributions available at drupal.org.

Merb Gets Merged into Rails 3

Back to Merb being merged into Rails 3, I think this will definitely turn things around. Both Merb and Rails are web application frameworks that make use of the Ruby language and both are developed and maintained by different teams. Rails was created by David Heinemeier Hansson while Merb was started by Ezra Zygmuntowicz and has Yehuda Katz (more popular to UI geeks for his jQuery book and jQuery contributions) as one of its core developers. On December 23, 2008, the Rails team and Merb team announced the fusion and “their commitment to work together.”

I already love Rails despite the inevitable pitfalls I’ve just encountered and I am hoping the best is yet to come. I still have enough time to adapt to Rails and break my neck on fixing the app I’m working on.
